I earned my master’s degree in counseling from Mount Mary University in 2014 and my bachelor’s degree in Communication Science from the Universidad Autonoma de Coahuila in Mexico in 2004. My professional interests revolve around healing of trauma, depression, anxiety and other issues in children and adults. I cultivate my passion for counseling by getting constantly educated and trained in various techniques and approaches to assist my clients. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Hypnosis, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).
I completed my internship at a community clinic for uninsured and underserved population at the Milwaukee Third Ward. I worked at the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin as a Community Health Navigator, Child Well-Being Assessor, and Child Psychotherapist -in training. I have served for the last 3 years as a bilingual psychotherapist at one of the best Federal Qualified Health Centers in the state.
I also believe that my experience as a person newer to this country for the last 13 years made me more empathetic and sensitive to my client’s struggles. I am very proud of my work with individuals and their families in communities impacted by poverty, high levels of stress and trauma, as well as with those striving in stable environments and seeking more clarity in their paths and deeper purpose in their lives.
I believe clients are the main experts in their lives and have inner goals and desires that drive their actions. My purpose as a psychotherapist is to provide tools that empower individuals by gaining insight into those goals and desires utilizing their strengths and making them possible.
As an integrative therapist, I utilize a versatile approach, and my interventions are tailored to each of my clients and the issue he/she presents. I am not timid and will readily change gears if an approach is not best serving a client. My goal is highly personalized approach attuned to my clients' individual needs. I enjoy working as a team and encourage my clients to continue or regain control of their lives, starting with their treatment.
In child therapy I like to work with the parents as much as I do with the child. My goal is to empower parents to feel more efficient and happier in their roles, and for the child to feel seen, heard, and understood. This requires that I meet with the child alone and many other times with the parents. Additionally, because of the nature of some of the issues during childhood a collaborative approach among professionals is required (teachers, social workers, psychologists, nurses, etc.), so I am up to the task to connect with them to achieve the best outcome for your child.
